GOOC 2009 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS
Big congrats goes out to Pieter-Jan "Massman" Plaisier and his benching partner Thomas "Pt1t" Kerrinckx for taking top spot at the GOOC 2009 Europe semi-final held in Prague, Czech Republic on April 16-18th. The Belgium pair will now go on to represent Europe in the GOOC World Finals held in Tapei, Taiwan. Huge props fellas, as the competition was stiff with some of the best overclockers in Europe to compete against.
Hardware that was used for the win:
-i7 965 ES
-GBT X58-UD4P
-Kingston HyperX 3GB DDR3-2000 CL9
-GBT GTX260 OCDragon F1 Extreme CPU unit and Tek-9 3.0 GPU unit were used for the hardware cooling
Winning set of benchmarks:
- 8M: 1min29.203 at 5238Mhz - NB @ 3880 / mem @ 970 8-8-8-24
- 3DM06 HDR: 15394 at 950/1900/1150 - cpu at 5G non-ht
- 3DM06 full: 31258 at 900/1800/1150 - cpu at 5G non-htWhere are you guys from?
Massman - Waregem, Belgium
Pt1t - Namur, Belgium
When did you start overclocking and why?
Massman - Unlike most of the overclockers, I started overclocking because I just wanted more points in 3Dmark. First time I ran the benchmark, I got a certain rating and when I overclocked the system just a bit higher, the score was higher ... so, I wanted to find out what the maximum score of this particular system was. After that, I joined a local overclocking forum in which I could compete against some other guys and I in the end I got hooked on the constant pushing of my rig trying to beat the other score. I guess I'm all about the competition ...
Pt1t - When I was 12y old and I wanted to gain some speed with 286 and 386 :) That was only jumper mod but the begining of oc!
Favorite benchmarks?
Massman - Depends on what platform I'm benching, but in general I spend most of my time on 3DM01 and both PI-benchmarks.
Pt1t - 3dmark 2005 and Super Pi
Whats your most memorable overclock?
Massman - In terms of publicity, the E8500 and X4 940 runs may be the best sessions I did so far, but I just love the LN2 clocking Geoffrey and me did on the XP-M 2600+ which resulted in a 31.7s 1M.
Pt1t - The 6255Mhz with QX9650
Do you look up to anyone in the overclock community?
Massman - Anyone who pushes his/her system to the limit, be it low-end or high-end. I don't really have any idols, but there are a few benchers who just don't stop to impress me.
Pt1t - euhm... I'm not a fanboy , I oc for myself and try to find the best hardware :)
What else do you guys do besides overclock?
Massman - I'm still a student so I need to spend time on my books and next to that I still play soccer and the occasional squash. Oc-related, I spend quite some time on hwbot and madshrimps.
Pt1t - I'm working hard ... play judo, and I'm before all a familly man!
Good luck in the finals guys...
Hwbot Champ Nick ShihHuge thumbs up goes out to team PURE member Nick "the TW rocket" Shih for his recent benching and rise to the tops of the rankings. Absolutely killing it on both p55 and X58 platforms. Gratz man! Lets dig a little deeper..
1. Where are you from? (hometown)
From Formula Taiwan2. What got you into EXTREME overclocking?
1 year ago . the 2009 GOOC Taiwan Competition got me into Extreme overclocking.3. You've been virtually unbeatable on the Venom container and EVGA P55 CLASSIFIED motherboard, can you give any tips for p55 overclocking to the readers?
Venom is one of the best Pot made by Kingpin , u can reach -196 easily . And Clarkdale 32nm chip is scaling with cold .4. I hear your quite the ladies man, can u tell me a little about that? Whats your secret?
Maybe this is rumor :) , i just like to have fun with chicks after overclocking . It will help me to relax5. On that note, what else do you do besides overclocking in your spare time?
I like to race Go Kart or anything about cars .
Or going to Night Club with some drinks .6. How do you feel about the term "World Record" and its reckless abuse in modern day overclocking?
Team Pure is such a best team by fewer Elite overclockers . With the few members in HWBOT , and get the most points .7. Whats your favorite benchmark and why?
I like all . Bcz i am still studying all the tweak of every benchmark .
8. What do you pay for your LN2 per litre?
It is cheap in taiwan . Paid 180 L with 55 USD.
So.... maybe 500 USD per month.
9. Thanx so much for the short interview Nick, in closing what can we expect from you and the rest of your overclock team PURE in 2010?I will try to keep my HWbot Rank in TOP5 . I am glad to help Pure members & discussing overclocking .
I hope that more overclockers join team PURE in 2010 , then PURE will be the more stronger.
MOA North American champs Allen "Splave" Golibersuch and Brendan "RomDominance" MaddockBig props goes out to Team OCAlliance overclockers Allen "Splave" Golibersuch and Brendan "RomDominance" Maddock for their impressive win in the MSI M.O.A (Master Overclocking Arena) North American semi-final held in Las Vegas, NV. Jan 7th 2011. With solid competition and some of the best overclockers in North and south America present, the compo was really tight having the top three team results within 1-2% of each other. These guys took the 3dmark 11 round top spot and overall win. KPC was on hand at the event and I must say these guys came prepared to win. Their rig preparation was as solid as can be and these guys were some of the first to be up and running on Ln2 submitting results.
Clearly that preparation paid off for Splave and RomDominance taking home the gold in a contest where such a small margin separates the top guys, every tiny bit counted.
Let’s find out more about our newest KPC featured overclockers:

1. Where do you guys currently reside in the US? How about a quick bio on your pre-OC and oc life?
RomDominance: "I live in Tucson Arizona. I began overclocking like many of us did. I bought a dell xps 700 and it just wasn’t fast enough to run crysis on very high, so I began upgrading everything. When I was done, I had one of the fastest dell’s on the planet, but quickly realized that wasn’t anything to be proud of …so I began building a monster water cooled gamer. With this new rig I battled my way to the top of the crysis bench thread, and once again realized that I had cooling and equipment limits. This was the beginning of the end, as I went from dice to ln2 in less than a week and never looked back. I now break the bank on a weekly basis trying to improve my results in any bench I can improve in."
Splave: "I recently moved to Buffalo NY. Going to be opening my own business next month so its been pretty hectic lately, I always find time to bench though..I have to, I love to :) "
2. What's your opinion of the current USA overclocking scene?
RomDominance: " I think that most of the guys in the USA region are great. We see many at each event that we attend and we always have a good time. As a group, we are very helpful and supportive to each other, even if we are on opposing teams. With respect to manufacturer support, in my opinion, we do not enjoy the kind of support overclocking in Europe or Asia does. You would think the U.S. is a big enough market and we have plenty of people interested in gaming and overclocking here."
Splave: "Here in the USA we are lucky. Meeting with friends at some overclocking events like recently in las vegas for MOA americas, I hear horror stories of price gouging, product and ln2 availability...Where as if I want a gtx-580 boom newegg next day, low price...then I drive 15 minutes and pay $0.50/L for ln2. So I think the worlds view of us is spoiled, but all the tools does not a great overclocker make."

3. Favorite benchmarks and why?
RomDominance: "For me anything 3D. If I had to be specific probably Vantage or 06. IMO there is nothing better than trickling your way through a long 3d bench teetering on the edge of stability and landing a monster score."
Splave: "I really do enjoy them all, sounds cliche but I do. I enjoy the variability. I can say that Im not a huge fan of 3d06, and a large fan of Jane nash lol."
4. Are there any HW brands you guys prefer and why? Favorite Specific hw?
RomDominance: "If I were to commend one specific company, I can’t say enough about MSI. They did a wonderful job with MOA Americas this year and cared very much about what we thought of their products and what they could do to improve them, plus the lightning gtx580 is a beast! Currently for boards I am using Asus RE3 for x58 and the Maximus 4 for P67. I have had great luck with my Corsair GT’s for over a year now."
Splave: "I love MSI, they've been so good to me and my OCalliance brothers. Helen Wang bends over backwards constantly to make sure their events go smoothly and they just a great team over there. Lightning graphics cards, I mean forget about it. GTX-580 Lightning will flip 3d benching world upside down.
I gotta give props to ASUS as well, Ive beenched 980x on cold on this R3E about 200x now and its as epic as day one. Very durable strong board. And anyone from Intel if you read this pretty please start sending me chips lol!#@"

5. Favorite piece of extreme cooling hw and why?
RomDominance: "Nothing beats a Tek-9 Fat boy, straight up plain and simple, it’s an epic piece of hardware! I bring two to every event Al and I attend."
Splave: " I gotta say that I love the Gemini, for cpu-z the turbo base, and for everything else I use the heavy. Also just got the black finish tek fattie and its so pretty I still havent insulated it. Lastly I can seem to bring myself to sell my old F1...seems sacraligious."
6. You guys are part of the OCAlliance benching team which can be found at a good friends(Kal-el's) site over at www.overclockaholics.com. Steadily rising in the rankings currently ranked 9th in the world and making a solid name for yourselves through hard work and determination. Gaining respect with force the old fashioned way :). Can you tell us more about how this benching team came to be? What teams joined powers? What can we expect from this great team in 2k11?
RomDominance: "The OC Alliance is the product of a merger between Team NBOC and OCA. As a group we were spending allot of time on each other’s forums and decided it would be cool to add NBOC’s group of hardcore ln2’ers with the hardworking family oriented group of folks at OCA. Looking back, it was a great idea and has been a blast ever since. I am blessed to be part of the brotherhood over at OCA."
Splave: "About a year ago, NBOC SZS joined with Overclockaholics.com to become the OCAlliance. We were friendly neighbors that shared a common interested so it was like second nature joining up. Then we were lucky enough to have a couple greece brothers join us as well.
Kal-El is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and is a true leader. We have so many talented and active benchers its really awesome. We arent a big team at all really but we bring alot to the table. I talk to Romdominance daily and we've really formed and amazing bond, Patch, dentlord, steponz..we all text and stay in touch too. Very close knit and tight, and thats how we like it. We plan on growing slowly and climbing the ladder."

7. Most overclockers are inspired or motivated in one way or another by the actions and/or work of other members in the community. Are there any oc'rs you guys are inspired by?
RomDominance: "I am inspired by Kal-El’s giving nature and his work ethic to create the best possible environment on the net. He constantly finds ways to “foster the fever” and improve the oc community. In the tech area, I am constantly blown away by the knowledge and developments of people like Shamino…their bench rigs often look like something out of a sci-fi movie."
Splave: "It goes without saying that shammy, and hipro are an inspiration, mostly because of their shared knowledge. When hipro leaked the cold slow bios fix for 480 and then shammy had the 580 mods and bios all ready, they really provide the tools for all of us. But what really inspires me is when I see my teammates grinding out 2 point .5 point runs cause they know it helps and they bust their asses to get us that much closer to climibing the rankings. Oh and Vince obviously, without my pots I would be using a bent fence post!"

8. What do you guys do outside overclocking? Most overclockers have day jobs, care to share yours?
RomDominance: "I am a custom cabinet maker and custom home builder. Since the economy has gone south for most of us, I have been working with my friend and team mate Dentlord in Dallas learning to repair hale damaged cars. We bench together as much as our schedule permits."
Splave: "Hobby wise beside computers I like to work out, hit the gym. Great stress reliver and gives me good time to focus and think.
Im an optician by day. I sell and machine eyeglasses, and contacts as well as provide eye exams at my shop. But thats boring, more about overclocking. Its a sickness!"9. How much per Litre Ln2?
RomDominance: "In AZ ln2 runs .82/ltr, in Dallas about a buck/liter."
Splave: "Airgas in buffalo, I pay $0.50/L. Very lucky guy, I begged and they listened"
10. Any tips or techniques you guys can share with those just getting started out in our hobby?
RomDominance: This is a great time to get started in benching IMO. With sandy bridge’s dislike of cold for the most part, air benching has never been so productive. Once you learn 2d benches, the ln2 adventure begins with your gpu’s. Insulation is key to long productive sessions.
Splave: "Start on air, and really learn the ropes. Be creative and innovative, dont always believe what you read on a forum
